Why aren't the people who are not in genuine need of emergency help sent away? People like the man with a sore throat and the woman with period pain shouldn't get past the desk. I know you can't expect a receptionist necessarily to triage, but obvious cases like this should be turned away immediately.
My daughter is an A & E doctor in the Midlands, whist not in crisis some of the hours she works are ridiculous and she has said that towards the end of a shift she doubts her ability to be 100% on top of it.
As for the non emergencies there are also the problems with people sticking objects where they should not. Apparently carrots is a big problem at the minute as they break off and get lodged, she even had a funnel stuck up one of them just before Christmas.
But what got her most of all was the attitude of these people. One of the carrot people was complaining at the wait, the reason for the wait was due to someone who needed serious attention in order to keep living. This carrot person however was not having any of that and ranted on. No doubt he is one of the people lodging a complaint.

I wish they would just throw the drunks out. I took my Dad to A&E because he had a strange turn where we think he lost consciousness and while we were talking to the doctor, a drunk was constantly tugging on his arm while he was dealing with my Dad and I. They ended up letting the drunk sleep it off on a trolley but he should have been thrown out. My friend who works in that hospital said that they have a duty of care and if the drunk came a cropper when he was turfed out, there would be hell to pay. They can`t win really.
