Windows 10

I've installed the tech preview of Windows 10 on my spare pc, from Windows 7. It was very easy and kept all my files and settings.
The only thing I've lost is Windows Media Center which I use to watch and record tv via my tv card.

So far, I like it. It is bright and fresh, seems fast but are a few Windows 8 features I miss.

Anyone else using W10?

As with W8 it's likely to be sold seperately! I was in the same boat and lost my tv card reading. Grrr.

Windows 10 is going to be a free upgrade for both W7 and W8 users..I'll wait .

Stefos, I do have Windows Media Center in Windows 8 but it wasn't compatible with my tv card. I solved that by hunting out updated drivers online. I didn't pay for WMP because I was an early adopter of W8 and got a free licence for it.

With Windows 10 there is simply no WMC but I got round it by downloading Media Portal. http://www.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-download That should work with the set up you currently have.

ginge, the tech preview is free but of course it comes with no guarantees as to stability. So far I've had no problems but I wouldn't risk it if it were my main pc.

hc: when it's released later in the year, Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to both W8 and W7 licence holders....

I am a bit confused, I thought WMP was free anyway? If you meant WMC well done for being able to get it for free at the right time!

I did have to buy a new card as my six-year-old Black Gold TV card wouldn't fit my new computer,only to find that the replacement needed Windows Media Centre to work! (The card offered software and also stated that it worked with Windows Media Centre. It should have said 'only' works with...), So I had to buy that too.
The bundled software was a bit rubbish and I gave Media Portal a try, thank you, but it's a bit too 'flashy' for me (Same as WMC in my opinion) so I've settled for DVB Dream, but if you're saying Media Portal can replace WMC for free, it looks like I've lost out again! :(

I did mean WMC, sorry for the confusion.

Media Portal was a nightmare to set up although it works ok. I bet it took me 2 hours from the download to get the tv to work. I tried a couple of other free ones, but for various reasons were no good for my set up.

In comparison WMC is a dream to use.
