I have powered-up a CD-ROM Drive, removed from a computer, and connected the analogue output to my hi-fi as the CD bit is being awkward about playing copied CD's. This arrangement doesn't appear to work!!!
Can somebody please tell me why?
Cheers.

A sensible answer at last!!!
I am using video/phono auxillary which is where I normally plug in the output from a turntable. The odd thing is that if I plug in a pair of stereo headphones to the miniature stereo jack at the front of the CD-ROM in the comp, I hear sounds. Doing this with the free-standing CD-ROM Drive I am experimenting with does not produce any sounds at all!!!
Cheers.

They can sometimes run on their own, depending on the drive itself. Some will not play a CD via analogue outputs on just the software inside.
You can get hi-fi units which read the entire CD off into RAM, and play back digitally from there, resulting in a theoretical silent machine, and error-free playback.
