He is the classic under-achiever who rolled life's dice and got a three. He derives a modicum of pleasure from irritating co-worker Gareth.
From the beginning Tim yearned for receptionist Dawn, the one ray of sunshine in his dreary routine, and even summoned the courage to ask her out - despite the intimidating presence of her boyfriend, Lee. When Dawn left Wernham Hogg, Tim tried to move on. Then fate (actually a BBC documentary crew) played a part in bringing them back together.
I thought Tim was wonderful - and if they ever film in my office, I plan the same approach - the sidelong glances at the cameras as if to say "Are you getting this ...?" and the wicked one-liners delivered in such a dry droll tone. Remember when DB was supposed to apologise to him over the - ahem - improper use of his PC, and he rang the Speaking Clock instead? Just as everyone walked away, Tim asked "Has anyone got the time?" Classic timing!
Re. the last episode, the first time I watched it, I didn;t see Dawn return until Tim did - gobsmacking moment, and what a result for both of them! And Brent found someone to affirm him as a decent person, so he put Finchie in his place.
Fabulous - I'm going to have to watch it all again tonight.
