If you're not actually getting 'banding' (or a similar problem which is obviously related directly to your ink cartridges) the problem is far more likely to be with what you're printing onto, rather than what you're printing with!
Using ordinary copier paper (or 'multi-purpose paper') always results in feint print output. Cheap inkjet paper often isn't much better. Try some HP Bright White (90gsm) Paper and you'll almost certainly see a difference. Prices:
Sainsbury's £3.75 for 250 sheets (in store and online)
PC World £1.97 for 250 sheets as a clearance offer on their website. (I'll definitely be taking a look in their local store as I normally buy from Sainsbury's!)

>>>all colours came out fine except the black it showed blank nothing
Then it's definitely time to run the head cleaning utility. (If there's a 'deep clean' option, choose that one).
The way to access the head-cleaning utility can vary between printers but this method usually works:
Go to the Start button.
Then go to 'Devices and Printers'. (With some versions of Windows you might need to go via 'Control Panel', or 'Control Panel' and then 'Hardware and Sound').
Right-click on the icon for your printer.
Click on 'Printer properties'.
Select the 'Maintenance' tab.

Read through that lot but pay particular attention to 'Step four: Use an automated tool to clean the printhead'. (NB: Note the bit that says you might need to use it several times!)
HP also offer diagnostic software, which can be downloaded to help solve problems with their printers:
