i used to be on a forum where you could press ignore in someone's profile and you just never saw any posts by them. I think that would be a handy button to have

Exactly Peter!

I can't imagine ever wanting to ignore every single thing any one poster may have to say.

We all make mistakes, that's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils.

But very few posters are complete idiots.

I may take issue with something someone has said, but that doesn't mean they are never ever going to post anything ever again that I want to read - they may come up with something else in ten minutes, or ten days, or weeks, but to 'ignore' them loses that opportunity for ever.

The old-fashioned way remains the best - if you don't like it, take no notice of it.
Yeah I have another very good idea

( actually with some of these answers on this thread I can see why some want an ignore button )

a zap button

so someone in Law who doesnt like Barmaid's correct advice -
can ZAP it ! or someone in Finance who does not like their tax advice that they have got from an unlabelled tax consultant can zap it and make their own life more difficult and also those readers by misleading them to answers which are wrong but still 'better'.

Someone can label best answer some other awful crip - you know like this answer on this thread
and my idea would really improve AB
andy we so seldom agree on answers
we should make a day of it

"But very few posters are complete idiots."
But those very few ARE complete idiots and i feel unwashed just by being near the same words as them
Come to France with me Beddy and have a break from it all...

I'd say that reaction is a trifle strong - but that's part of the deal of being on a debate site.

You will get geniuses, morons, and every shade in-between - the noble art of selection plays a vital part in the process.

i suppose what i'm saying is i find it hard to be selective when someone is increasingly *** by posting dribble or nonsense. mY FINGERS START GETTING ITCHY, AND WHILE JUST IGNORING SOMEONE IS ALL VERY NOBLE, SOME OF US DON'T HAVE THE SELF RESTRAINT, AND COULD DO WITH THe help of a little button :)
bednobs - you need a cuppa and a rub down with a damp copy of Answerbank Today!
I absolutely get where Bednobs is coming from.
You surprise me ummmm, I have always thought of you as very level-headed and even-tempered.
There are a couple of people that I find irritating. It would be good to have an ignore button for bad mood days :-)
but but but but but my missives are already ignored.....sob sob sob

ps on hte previous forum where they had it, you could unignore anyone whenever you wanted too.
I used a site that had an ignore button. Nosiness would make you un-ignore them :-)
wouldn't life be boring with everyone smiling sweetly and being so so nice to each other!
Not really, no. Life would be boring if everyone had the same opinions.
I guess if AB is your only form of entertainment or social life then an ignore button would work for you. If you are having a 'bad mood day' why sit in front of a computer reading things that are going to wind you up? Go for a walk or do some housework!
I don't really take the site that seriously to want/need a report button :) ( although it can be very informative at times )
