My son complains that his chest hurts and that it is hard to breath but feels better when he is sitting. Is this a sign of pneumonia or what could it be?

jodessa, this could be a lot of things, take the boy to a doctor today.

I have occasional bouts of costochondritis (basically a touch of arthritis in the ribcage) and have similar symptoms as your description. As woofgang pointed out though, it could be any number of things even something such as bad posture.
