If it's the area you need info on, well...
We live about 1 hour away from Pickering, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and have had many happy days in that area.
There's the North Yorks Moors Railway, a lovely journey from Pickering to Grosmont, taking in Goathland which is famous for being Aidensfield in Heartbeat and for being the Hogwarts station in the Harry Potter films.
Pickering itself is a lovely town, we like the museum (can't remember the name, though, sorry!) and the castle and just walking around.
And you can't beat a drive on the moors with a picnic in the boot. It always seems to us to be a great area for just slowing things down and taking stock, and just CHILLIN'!
There's also Flamingoland Theme Park & Zoo just down the road, and one of our family favourites, Eden Camp, which is a WWII museum on the site of an old POW camp, where each prisoners' hut displays a different aspect to the war, both on the Home Front and on the Front Line. It's good for adults and kids alike - ours are 10, 7 & 5 and they find it really interesting.
I could go on (and usually do!) but I'll leave it there, in case someone else from nearer the area can tell you more.
Have a great break there!
