Doctor In 24 Hrs In A&e
11 Answers
This is a very good programme but I was really sorry for the man who was an actor, with a fractured shoulder , who was abruptly told by a real charisma-bypass young doctor that he may have bone cancer. The poor man was left on his own, in complete shock, talking to himself about not wanting to die, and couldnt get the results of his bone scan till the following day. He obviously had no one to go home to and talk about this, and then at the end we were told there was in fact no sign of cancer. I am really incensed by this awful doctor. How dare he scare someone like that before he had any results?

She was undergoing tests for a lump in her breast, when she was told that it looks like she may have an aggressive cancer in her breast! Well she fell apart with this news, then the results came back clear after having the lum removed.
I was told I had cancer by an arrogant consultant who had 3 students in tow, all of which were gathered around my bed staring at me, it was also in front of 3 other patients and their visitors.
She then waltzed out leaving me on my own as I fought back the tears. She didn't even close the curtains round me (and I had a broken hip so could not get out of bed)
I will never forget that woman.

On a technical note
cancer without special tests ? well they did have an x ray
and the sign the junior saw COULD have been this:
http:// en.wiki pedia.o rg/wiki /Codman _triang le
which is seen in trauma and can cause confusion.....I have to say I am surprised the wiki article doesnt warn about this ( ie can be seen in trauma )
If any one remembers the Birmingham bone cancer over diagnosis scandal 2004 of which there is NO internet record I can find, the presence of this sign in trauma was one of the confounding factors
[ and as my mother said: I dont mind how rude the surgeon is, can he do the operation ? ]
