I have a vast expanse of hall, stairs and landing to paint. The walls are horrible, pointy artex and it's a bu88er to do! Any suggestions on the type of roller to use that will cause the least amount of spattering would be very welcome. I seem to get more on me and the stairs & windows than on the walls.
mrs.pudding, why oh why did we all have our walls and ceilings artexed? I still have some spiky bits also, and it's like painting barbed wire, isn't it?
Barbed wire is it exactly! And the reason it needs decorating is that it traps all the dust and spiders! I hate it but certainly don't have the energy or money to strip it off and start again.
you can buy some stuff now, the name escapes me, but you paint it over artex and it gives you a smooth finish so you could then in theory, paint or paper over. I haven't tried it, but have just noticed it advertised, it might be an alternative to the time consuming job of taking it off or the time spent painting it
The best roller to use is made of sheepskin (might be a bit more expensive). The paint really sticks to it, where as the man made fibre type, the paint slips off.
