Is the Roman town Newark on Trent? Seems to fit with being 10 miles from RAF Waddington, but the Doddington Hall seems to be more than 8 miles north-east. Have I missed a small Roman town?

Thanks for the reply. Have you seen the puzzle? It's free online on the Sunday Times website (Travel) if you want to have a look. Don't think it can be High ***, as it's a Roman town that's the answer to the first question, not a road.

Ta, Baldric. Have already had a look on Wiki re Newark, which has some Roman history, but what is confusing me are the distances. Newark is about 10 miles south-west of the first RAF base (Waddington) but what must be Doddington Hall looks much more than the '8 miles north-east' of the Roman town, as described in the puzzle, Having said that, as a regular solver of this puzzle, the setter's distances don't always tally with the maps I use!
It could be Brough (Roman name: Crococalana) about 2-3 miles NE of Newark on the Fosse Way.
