I am changing cars soon and need an automatic.

What is the difference between the Honda Jazz CVT gearbox and the Civic i-drive gearbox ?

I am considering both but am concerned about the long term reliability of the i-drive gearbox ...

The CVT gearbox is supposedly problem free - but I prefer the new Civic

The CVT transmission is a continously varying ratio system which means that it will be (in theory) always at the correct gear ratio for any situation and there are no gear changes made by the system so it will be very smooth. The i-drive is as mdoo98 says, basically an ordinary manual gearchange gearbox made to work in an automatic manner, therefore it will always be changing gear which you will feel.
The CVT is probably the best to drive and probably more economical as well but the i-drive is much cheaper to manufacture.
