whats the difference between a man of Kent and a kentish man

A Man of Kent comes from east of the River Medway, a Kentish Man comes from west of the river.

Dosn't the river run west to east. where would Sevenoaks fall.

It runs more or less North South, but does have East West bits (you just have to generalise). Sevenoaks is west of the river.

East Kent and West Kent are one-time traditional subdivisions of the English county of Kent, kept alive by the Association of the Men of Kent and Kentish Men, an organisation formed in 1913. The division apparently derives from the ethnic differences between the Jutish settlement of the east of the county and the Saxon presence in the west, although its origins are somewhat obscure. Residents of East Kent, those living south of the River Medway, are called 'Men of Kent', as opposed to residents of west Kent, who are known as 'Kentish Men'.
Sevenoaks is west Kent so they would be Kentish Men.

The difference is that the Man of Kent is in Ashford and the Kentish Man is in Canterbury! Both good pubs but I live in Ashford so go to the Man Of Kent!
