Taking from skips. Illegal? Is it illegal to take stuff out of skips or bins if on someones property? ... under the Theft Act 1968, ...

Sorry that link didn't work. There is a long previous thread on Answerbank posted by Buenchico about the legalities of taking from skips. I will try to retrieve it again. It is an ambiguous subject as Tambo says.

A bit late now, but just to say thanks for all replies. I fell asleep not long after posting (had a bit of an exhausting day) Thanks again all.
Probably break the speed limit most days.
Are you allowed to smash a car window to get to a dog that's locked in a boiling hot car? I'd do that if it was against the law or not.
I was talking about items that had been discarded as rubbish, which is not theft as Beunchico's link says. Charity shops sells off unsold clothes and other items in bulk , that is what their skips are for not for rubbish.
There is a house clearance company just up the road from me , the owner has told me I can take anything that he has put in the skip as it costs him money to get rid of it. Had 2 oil paintings and a vintage electric clock last year all sold on eBay. The clock went to Australia fo £28 !
Eddie, theres a difference between "being given permission" & helping yourself. The latter is theft.
I'd happily do bird to remove Enda Kenny from Leinster House by whatever means are deemed necessary. Probably won't get the opportunity to do it due to the thousands ahead of me in the queue to do exactly the same thing.
Lots of laws are just stupid.
