Would you want to be present at a public execution?
(and would you have your knitting needles with you?)

Personally, I find it a bit odd (not to say psychotic) that any human would want to see any other human die.

Years since I knitted, I'd probably have to concentrate so much on what I was doing I'd miss everything.
No, I wouldn't. I'm no Madame Defarge.
I find it a bit odd Nailit that you ask this question,in that there is no capital punishment in this country.

Are you thinking of travelling abroad to some uncivilised land such as many states in the USA.?
the other poster is quite correct

the last public executions were the Fenians who blew a hole in Clerkenwell Prison - 1867 - I think and public sentiment was such that they were hanged in public with in a heavily curtained scaffold

N I have never wished to see someone put to death
Would I attend an execution? only if they dragged me kicking and screaming to the execution site.
I don't think that those who would (and I'm sure there are some in Ab) are going to own up to it in direct terms.

You will have to judge for yourself from some of their posts.

Personally I would find it a horrifying experience.
for islamic jihadists yes please.
for child molesters yes please.
not public, just a very slow painful death behind the scenes by a sadistic freak and only after serving 20 or so years in a supermax jail.
hahahaa..........." Are you thinking of travelling abroad to some uncivilised land such as many states in the USA.?"

Nalit could be a good idea to avoid going to Saudi Arabia then. They still execute people in public . If you happen to be in Jeddah on a Friday noon you are likely to be rounded up and forced to watch while someone has their head cut off. They seem to be particularly keen to get any 'Westerners' to the front of the crowd.
in the old days you could count on seeing people die all the time, battles, childbirth, illness, or just children who couldn't make it past their first year. It must have inured people to the suffering of others quite a bit. That excuse doesn't hold true today, though.
The death penalty is not just for murder in Saudi , insulting the Prophet (blasphemy ) can get you a date in 'Chop Chop' square as well.
Yes, you can be publicly executed just for saying 'Muhammad was a ***'
And dont forget what the Witchfinder General was responsible for in this country!
As an ex prison officer, if you`d read the stuff I had to, you`d be up there kicking the box away with me.
Was once in a play called The Last Drop. It was about the last public hanging in Scotland. From what I've read there was a bit turnout for this public event.
Big not "bit"
No, but not a capital punishment supporter
its not going to happen too many do gooders in UK.
Don't think being a do gooder is the point
dieseldick, I agree with you and I would also add animal abusers to the mix ...
