Birds nests?

My neighbour is cutting down some very ugly conifers at the bottom of his/our garden and whilst I would be glad to see the back of them I do know that there are several pairs of birds nesting in them. My question is - is it illegal to cut down trees while birds are nesting or just immoral and cruel?

Its not illegal, unless the birds are endangered, which I doubt. But it is immoral, the birds will fledge in a few weeks so please ask your neighbour to wait just a little bit longer

We had this trouble last year with our neighbours trees,we held on till the birds had flown the nest,couldn't have lived with myself otherwise!!

oh it makes me angry when people just can't wait a week or two until the birds have flown. Birds, their nests & eggs are protected by law...however I doubt that unless they were an endangered species anyone would bother about actually persuing any complaint you made.

Birds and Bird�s Nests -
It is an offence under Section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) to intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built. It will be an intentional act if, for example contractors continue to reduce or remove a hedgerow, tree or shrub, after they have been told that birds are nesting there. The discovery of a nest during the process of work will also prohibit further cutting work within an area or buffer zone around the nest.

I have birds nesting in my loft ..and as scared as I am of birds and as much as I cant stand the sound of them above my head when im in bed ,I couldnt get rid of them ,, You just have to wait a few more weeks and they will be gone.

Belive me .,,I am also counting the mins until there gone .lol

Has the damage been done already? If not, contact your local English Nature office, they'll send someone round to reason with your neighbour.
