Added Voice-Overs (?)

Due to technical problems I won't bore you with, we are forced at the moment to watch live TV, which means even going so far as attempting to watch things like 'Midsomer Murders' (the earlier and later ones) and 'Endeavour' on ITV3 which now have a constant infuriating voice saying things like "He opens the door" as you watch someone open a door, "He finishes his drink" as he finishes his drink. Some of these programmes I have seen in the past, and I'm sure this maddening voice describing what I am watching wasn't there before, what is this about please and does anyone think it is an improvement?

I was asking because if the service is available only in the UK and the menu is in English, I am surprised you can't see the option on page two of the sound options.

If anyone's still there, I just checked Midsomer ITV and despite resetting the set to default, the voice over is still there, it's obviously the TV set because I also just tried it on my PC, courtesy of FilmOn and it isn't on that.
hc suggests altering the 'region', what would be the overall effect of that? Would I lose channels?

I can't understand why it's suddenly happening. I know you don't normally watch live tv but if AD had always been there it would have recorded in that format (I think).

How do you get tv? Through the ariel, freesat, digibox, what?

hc; The signal comes direct to the TV via a satellite dish, so I guess it's what you call freeview.

Freesat? You have a freesat remote, I guess (I've never used freesat).

If so, try the audio button or menu or sound or option button on that

I think I have now established that my TV set does not have the on/off facility for audio description. The paper handbook with it covers 7 models all with slightly differing numbers and I assume that they are for models sold in different countries, so it would appear only the models sold in the UK can do that (in fact says UK only in the handbook)
Does anyone know of the inner workings of a TV? would it be feasible for a tv mechanic to change the component part, to achieve this.
The set is only a couple of years old and works fine in all other ways and was expensive to buy.
It seems that audio description is being added to more and more programmes all the time.

hc I don't have a freesat I just have a dish on the roof connected direct to the set, would a freesat help?

ging. They don't do audio description in Germany. I think it's a Brit. invention

I'm more confused than ever about this - if you get your tv through a satellite dish you must be getting freesat. Maybe it is built in to your tv.

By the way, Audio Description is available in Germany and most European countries, America, Australia and Canada.

It must be built in there is no extra box involved. The TV is set to German region, I'm wondering now, since you say its available in Germany, if I change the language to German if an AD on/off option might appear? Doubtful but I'll give it a try.

hc; By Jove he's got it! grandson #2 (aged 15) arrived Lond. - Stuttgart last night, and it took him about 5 minutes! ; 'Options' on the handset - 'multi audio' - gives a choice of NAR or eng. - select eng. and it's gone!
NAR seems to be the default setting though, and when you switch off the TV and then restart, it has reverted to NAR however that's not a big deal - 4 clicks, and we left it at that as we were becoming ant-social. When the genius awakes he'll probably sort that out too. :0)
