They both sell a packet of Rodeo chewy treats for dogs at £1 for a pack of four. I bought packs containing eight sticks for the same price in a Poundshop this morning.

Sometimes these packs at Poundland/Home Bargains contain prodcts of a different size. If they are the same and you have time to shop around and others do teh same then M&S/Tesco may reduce their prices

My first thought was that they were close, or past, their sell-by date, but they're not.
No - it's simple business.

Any major store will make a big fuss about its loss-leaders - goods sold at cost or even a loss in order to tempt people into the store.

What they keep quiet about is the other items where the profit margins are very high, and make the profits the store wants - and this is a prime example.

It is not 'ripping off' to charge a higher price - the customer has the choice of where and whether or not to buy.
I think shops like Poundland buy manufacturers overstock,so can buy for less and pass on the savings.
Is Poundland ripping off customers as they sell 1kg sugar for £1 but it is currently 59p in Tesco. A few weeks ago it was 49p.

Not everything in pound shops are a bargain.
Poundland do have some real bargains compared to tesco/M&S etc but some products at Poundland are smaller size packs where the unit price is higher than that charged by M&S/Tesco
As I said, all stores make profits on essential items, but they only make a noise about the ones they discount.

That has been common business practice as long as there has been trading in the world.
Are they all the same make sandy? I had a dog who could demolish entirely a cheap one in a matter of minutes. But then he did eat the left overs of a steak pie dinner and eat the foil from the steak pie.

The cheaper shops always sell such products at reduced prices - case in point, Dreamies for cats 89p in Home Bargains, £1.39 in Pets at Home.
