Teething?
My darling 5 month old son is teething (I think). He wants to chew all day, occasionally has red cheeks, wants his gums rubbed etc etc, but for the 1st time in his short life has developed nappy rash. Today also for the first time he had a foul smelling (vinegar?) bright green poo that was a bit on the runny/sticky side.
He has since had a normal nappy & although he is being weaned, has had nothing in the past 2 days that he hasn't already had or that was green in colour.
My question is, can I put the nappy rash & the poo down to his teeth?
Thanks.

I have been trying to leave his nappy off for at least an hour a day - what a laugh that is; he loves it! I've tried not too use too much Suda cream in the past as I've read it can stop the air getting in, but I've been putting it on with a trowel when he is in his nappy to try & help. He's as good as gold as well, not upset by it all & it must be very sore.
Two of my three were affected like this, the other one used to bang the sides of their ears, poor wee souls.
http://www.ciao.co.uk/Metanium__Review_5075948 I was recommended this stuff by a midwife mate at the time ... it was good.
Just wanted to add to BOO's reply, don't expect teeth to appear instantly - I can remember my babies all showing symptoms of teething for many weeks, even months, before a tooth showed through.
A Health Visitor once told me that Sudocrem can sting sometimes, so if you're looking for a barrier once the nappy rash has cleared, you could try vaseline / petroleum jelly. (Am assuming this is still acceptable, and the Powers-that-be haven't come up with a new and wacky reason to stop using it?!)
Happy days!
Hi Tiggster,
If he starts to experience any pain then try fennings cooling powders www.anglianpharma.com/fennings/home/fever_home.htm
I used to pop one into my daughters bottle at night and she was pain free. They're also siutable for 3 months plus.
I also used to give her ice pops still sealed with all the sharp edges smoothed off to chew on - nice and cooling on the gums!
As for the nappy rash and poo they're definitely a symptom of teething - a couple of drops of lavender essential oil in his bath water should help to sooth and heal any soreness pat dry gently and try to keep it dry with lots of talc - Good Luck
Definately connected ~ too much of a coincidence for them not to be!
Mine always had nappy rash when teething..never at any other time. Like other postes have said, the best thing is fresh air (during the warmer months it is good to take them out in the garden in the raw!).
I used sudocrem, but also Kamillosan ~ like the sudo you only need a small amount & I found it much more effective on blistering.
Hope your little one gets better soon :o)
Thank you very much one & all for your helpful replies. There are so many things to learn when you become a Mum & it is wonderful when hints & tips that are tried & tested are shared.
I will be trying the various creams/potions/hints (one at a time!!) to see what works for my darling son. I like the ice pops idea as the shape is something that my son will get on with holding very well.
Thank you very much again.
