Driving past a hearse

Is there any protocol for overtaking or not overtaking a hearse for that matter?

Isn't it supposed to be bad luck to overtake a hearse or something??

i have never heard of a protocol for actually overtaking them - i used to live near a crematorium that was approached along a dual carriage way, people just whizzed past as the hearse etc were generally moving quite slowly for the road I never noticed anyone behaving in any other way

Yeh this was on quite a long dual carriageway 2-3 miles and to stay behind the hearse would have seemed absurd and as much as I wanted to respect the departed when you are in the outside lane with some pillock up your arse it's quite difficult, so I just overtook at a reasonable speed.

I'd have done the same in that situation... but i would probably have thought about it for several minutes before i did it... just in case i got it wrong!

The Crematorium is between my work and home and it has happened to me a few times and each time I felt a sense of shame, but thanks everyone for your answers

Slightly different, but kind of similar, You sound like you would usually be respectful of a hearse and have road manners. This must be difficult to do all the time, as because you travel past a crematorium daily, then it would begin to affect your life on a daily basis, if you waited. My road and the surrounding few are a haunt for driving instructors, whilst I would normally be patient and understand Learner drivers, because the driving schools are abusing the area, It really is getting to me, and a few of my normally reasonable neighbours.
