is it possible to just draw a grid and then plonk numbers in randomly? would that work? or to create your own would u have to take a full grid and take numbers out?

can anyone tell me where i can find a sudoku solver for one to eight numbers instead of the norm one to nine? have tried all the online solvers but they only seem to do the nine numbers!!! HELP!
