half term help for a lancashire lass

we want to take the kids out for the day on Friday. Where on earth could we go in the north west of england that would amuse a 2, 4 and 12 year old? Does such a place exist?

can anyone recommend a hand cream for VERY sore hands? I suffer with them every winter and have tried lots of hand creams, including neutregena, which is supposedly used by norwegian fisherman!...
