'Mom' in the Midlands

I've noticed that people from the Midlands tend to refer to their mother as Mom, whereas everyone else in the country says Mum. Does anyone know why this is, and if it's always been that way?

Busted GHD's

Has anyone ever sent theirs back for repair (you can do this) and if so, how much did it cost? The trouble is the wire I think, it seems to lose its connection and I don't think its worth trying any...
