high pitched noise

Can anyone tell me why I am getting a high-pitched noise when I am on my desktop. When I bring up any other screen then it disappears!

Sometimes once I have downloaded a video file from Kazaa, Morpheus I cannot play it as a pop-up box tells me player error. Can anyone tell me how I would manage to play this back?
