Orthopaedic Hardware removal

I broke my ankle badly in an accident in April 2006. I have 11 steel screws and a steel plate in my right leg. I want to get the metal removed. Does anyone here have experience of hardware removal?...

I broke my ankle back in April and had to have a plate and 11 screws inserted to fix it all back together. The surgeon recommends that I keep them in when it is all healed but I want to have them...
