While playing Oblivion (PC) I cannot use shortcut buttons or alt+tab

I have a keyboard with a volume knob, play/pause etc, whilst playing Oblivion for the PC I can't use any of these shortcut buttons or even alt+tab out of the program. I thought there might be...
