question on wasting police time and assault

If 'you' are assaulted (put in hospital) and the ppl who did it are caught and arrested, then later,,,,i decided to retract my statement, and not press charges, before the court hearing what happens...

if i was assualted and put in hospital, and they arrested the ppl who did it, but i changed my mind and turned around and said i want to retract my statement and not press charges ..what happens...
