water temp with ear thermometer

I want to check the temperature of my fishtank water, but the only thermometer we have is one of those ear ones. Is the tip waterproof? seeing and it's ok to get gung and stuff on it?...

This is an illusion were there is a girl spinning around on one foot, but the amazing thing is that it can look that she is spinning both clockwise and anti-clockwise depending on what way your brain...
