AVIs to DVDs?

Hi everyone, When I download movies, there are usually in .avi form which can play on my computer or can be put onto a DVD that will play on my computer. But, they cannot play on my normal DVD player...

Pardon my ignorance but is it possible to copy video games onto blank DVDs? Say I want to copy a game for the playstation 2, can it be done succesfully onto a dvd and then played on the playstation 2?...
