The AnswerBank: Your best kept secret?
102 Answers
Morning,
I wondered if we could take a moment to talk about the way you use AB.
I've seen people post a few times that they wouldn't send their friends to AB because they've been using it fairly anonymously for years and, as such, have divulged things they wouldn't share with others in their life necessarily.
So, I wondered, in what circumstance would you introduce a friend to The AnswerBank?
And equally, why wouldn't you? What could we do to ensure that you could use the site as you want AND invite your friends to join in when they need a helping hand (or wish to be helpful)?
Thanks everyone, hope we like the new logo!

There are a few people that would enjoy making trouble for me (again, for all I know, they're here anyway...), which is why I enjoy the anonymity & only a couple of really trusted friends know my screen name.
I like the logos Ed, but you said the other day that paint.Net was easy to use & I beg to differ! I must be a complete numpty, but will persevere :-)

I don't direct anyone here that I know. The internet is a vast resource, people can find out for themselves. Plus lots of work colleagues are on facebook which I detest and thus I don't like it when the snidey comments and back stabbing from facebook subsequently manifest themselves on here, hence I don't tell work colleagues about AB.
Sorry if that's me being a party pooper!

"I don't direct anyone here that I know. The internet is a vast resource, people can find out for themselves."
It's so vast people can't find things, that why you should direct people this way.
"I'd happily provide links to AB elsewhere, but I'd draw the line at getting a friend on it - it's mine I tell you, all mine!"
&
"I wouldn't invite anyone I know to AB. Purely because of the way I use the site and comments and questions I have posted, rather than the site itself."
We need a "invite a stranger" button. Not sure how it could be done though!
"I like the anonimity and if someone said to me they used answerbank I wouldnt tell them I did too."
What if the invite didn't say your username? So you could invite people to use the site, but they needn't know you did?
Okay, We'll go back to the rugby logo by 12.30!

I recommend this site on almost a weekly basis to family, friends and acquaintances.
If there has been a flurry of new members from Lancashire or Northamptonshire, that'll be down to me :o)
I've not divulged my user-name to them, but at the same time, I don't think that I've ever said anything of which I would be ashamed or embarrassed were they to suss me out.

The problem is that one could give an answer on here, another user decides to discuss your answer via FB without your knowledge.
Before you know it the rumour mill in work is in overdrive. Where I work FB is used primarily for gossip, tittle-tattle and at times downright mischief, thus I don't tell ANYONE who I know uses FB about this site.
