"Back Arrow" Issues
114 Answers
Morning,
We're working on a resolution to the problem which sees IE9 users unable to click back to previous pages.
The bug is one in IE9 - it considers each ad on the page to be a separate page (the way we show ads is normal industry standard, we're not doing anything odd here.)
A simple solution is to switch to FireFox and update to the latest version. A quick how to can be found here: http://www.theanswerb...our-internet-browser/
Some have suggested there is an issue in other browsers, if you've had an issue similar to this, please inform us of the browser version below. I've yet to be able to replicate any of these issues in other browsers.
There was a post last night suggesting it was a security concern regarding the issue. This is not true, the post was alarmist and misinformed. It has since been removed to avoid confusion.
Please direct others who are talking about this subject to this thread.
Thanks in advance,
Ed.

Run chrome overnight, or just for a full day without closing it, and check the number of user objects! It's a gigantic number compared to anything else in your task manager (I'd wager).
We'll keep everyone updated as we attempt to find some kind of solution.
Please continue to post any further information you have.

I neither know nor care whether ‘memory leaks’ (whatever they may be) are an ongoing problem with Firefox, all I do know is that this is the only site I use that sends my confuser into a tizzy? I did put it down to coincidence with updating Firefox but it appears to be a larger gremlin roaming around!
I’ll check periodically to see if it’s been resolved and keep you updated. I was relaying this as a ‘FYI‘, it’s a great site and it would be a shame if people didn’t hang around because they’re having the same issues as I am. All the best.

Ed, I am using FF 7.0.1 and the back button certainly doesn't work; although the green connection circle above it does do a few revolutions.
As regards Adblock, I have previously explained that I don't engage it on AB because all I get is a list of topics on a page and can't budge from that position. Anyway,I am not bothered by the Adverts and sometimes click a few to help AB.
Ron.

Afternoon Ed,
Thank you for your answer in Editor's Blog, and for directing me to this thread.
I am still experiencing the same problem with the 'Back-Arrow' although as you can see my Avatar problem is now solved.
I am using Firefox 4.0.1, I know it is an old version but it has worked alright for me until this latest problem.
When I press the 'Back-Arrow', and I can see all the files loading in the bottom left of my screen, but the page still refuses to go back.

In case anyone's counting, I'm on IE8 and have not been able to use my back arrow for a while now, so I've just been going back to the category and getting back to a page like that When using the small blue arrow it just comes up with "Advertisement, adv.....adv etc, although I've been on other pages on AB. Hope that this can be sorted out soonish? AB is the only site I use which appears to have this problem.
I am surprised boxtops that you are still using IE. Especially in consideration of the advise regularly being given by AB's Technological members.
It'll only take you a few minutes to download Firefox and if you do'nt like it you will still have IE to use. Click the link hereunder, download file and click 'open' and then 'run'. It's as simple as that. You can have as many Browsers as you may desire. I have four...IE, Opera, Google Chrome and,(set as my 'default') Firefox.
Give the following a try.....Ron.
