I don't get too involved in too many threads but I do read through a lot of them. I know from experience that many Abers are brilliant in willingly offering knowledgeable and sensible advice whilst many others are very sympathetic and supportive in the Body and Soul category. But, often these responses are not even acknowledged by the OP. Is there not some way Answerbank can remind the OP that well meaning folk have taken the time and trouble to think about their problem and answer it? Just a suggestion

Yes -its annoying -but try and think of the bigger picture -your answer was not just for the OP but for anyone surfing the Net that may have a similar problem and lands on your answer.

All new questions are subscribed by default, so the member should get an email about the responses - and this email does say that they should leave a note of thanks if it's good.
I am not sure what to do beyond this which doesn't seem too pushy?

^^ This is a good answer
"So, perhaps some people ask questions and assume that the answers are provided by robots who/which just sit here and wait to be activated?"
I think there is that strange attitude held by some, I don't think it is intentionally rude though!
