I've lost track of where this discussion has got to but is there any kind of plan to have a category for FAOs. It will almost certainly be abused but it is becoming a little tedious.

There are frequently threads directed to 'the experts' which don't take account of the expertise of others and are therefore self limiting. Particularly when there is a poster with more recent and pertinent experience.

And then there are the FAOs along the lines of 'Thanks Chumbawamba I've fixed it'

Not to mention the 'FAO Eric, are you about?'

Yes, you can avoid them but sometimes it is difficult to especially when they are in a specialist category rather than Chatterbank!

Please either a tightening/reminder of the rules or a 'Calling your Name' category.

When I was a newbie CB scared the cr@p out of me and I never ventured in.
Mamya, the boring peace keeper straddler scuttles off to do some quizzes.
^^ Me too Mazie.
you find the backbiting tedious? :o
You're not boring mamy, just the whole cycle of how these things develop :c)
Massively. I don't like it on any forum I'm a member of. Why would you waste your time poking holes in people you're never going to meet? I'm all for a decent debate but sometimes I think people could start a fight in an empty room!

Maybe I'm mellowing with my old age.
Can someone explain to me how it is so difficult for some to just ignore posts that they don't like/understand/agree with?

Surely we all have the option to just ignore anything we find tedious or inane or even offensive?
I agree 2sp and this is generally what I do. However we're talking about it now and I consider myself a long-term user who doesn't post as much as they used to and I'm giving my reasons for doing so - which is not the FAO threads, just the cycle that threads have a habit of going in these days within CB.
to be fair 2sp, when the majority of posts become "ignorables" you end up moving on from the site
Me, too, China.....

Sometimes it's hard to tell which is making the most noise....the noses being pushed out of joint or the axes being ground.......:o)
2sp

i avoid threads i'm not interested in , but sometimes you open one thinking its something else.

I agree with you CD. I don't venture into certain topics or participate in certain threads where some ABers hang out and dominate as I know exactly how it will all unfold even before the first answer has been posted.

I used to get involved and argue my point of view, but some people will not or cannot even acknowledge that others have a different opinion to their own.

Just got too frustrating and boring to be honest.
I don't mind the FAO posts, or has anyone seen or heard from ?????

I look on AB as a family (albeit a weird, dysfunctional one most of the time)

Some may not post as often as they used to due to a change in the personal habits/lifestyles?

ps the thought of China mellowing in her old age scares the sugar out of me :-D
One of these days Jack, you'll have to teach how to say what I just said but in two sentences like what you did innit... that's exactly the way I feel!
:D

Not sure if that was an open question or to me - I marvel at the energy some expend on back biting and the topic of the thread goes straight out of the window. Now that mystifies the heck out of me.
"ABEd, I don't wish to shy away from your query or my statement but I am not comfortable naming those who have disappeared or tapered off in their posting. It would be unfair as some have disappeared entirely and others have simply adjusted their style of posting."

Yes, fair enough. Please feel free to email me on the subject if you'd like to be more frank about specifics.
The point you've made, China, is completely correct.

What is a gnome to do though? In our useful example neither neither party was particularly nasty to the other, nor did either break Site Rules.

I refer the learned Gnome to my solution at 14.40.....
