Faos Etc

I've lost track of where this discussion has got to but is there any kind of plan to have a category for FAOs. It will almost certainly be abused but it is becoming a little tedious.
There are frequently threads directed to 'the experts' which don't take account of the expertise of others and are therefore self limiting. Particularly when there is a poster with more recent and pertinent experience.
And then there are the FAOs along the lines of 'Thanks Chumbawamba I've fixed it'
Not to mention the 'FAO Eric, are you about?'
Yes, you can avoid them but sometimes it is difficult to especially when they are in a specialist category rather than Chatterbank!
Please either a tightening/reminder of the rules or a 'Calling your Name' category.

The issue about attracting newcomers is not about zany threads or in-chatter - that goes on in any community or sub-community, it's more about overt hostility to newcomers, and most of us have been guilty to that - largely because of all the trolls about and some pretty asinine questions as 'openers'.

In six pages, sherrard, the debate has swept up the mad/fun threads.....the arguments that many have put forward as to FAOs that are useful and open to comments from others for experience, qualifications or whatever, I fully agree with. Come to think of it, I can't think of any that have deliberately excluded others or newbies, though I am sure such evidence can be assembled out of the hundreds of thousands of threads on here since AB emerged from the ethereal internet gas.

Ed's point, though, about the banter being between a few people only, and therefore quite off-putting for other people to join in, is valid, as several seem to endorse on this thread. Your naming Tony against that picture - for instance - why tony, why not any of the rest of us, is that an in-joke? - I don't get it. It's the "not getting what this thread is about" which is also causing concern, evidently.
(i) 'cos tony can take humour as more than amply shown around here over the years and he has a rich sense of fun too, not only in naming folk, teasing them and all the rest and (ii) in the knowledge that it would wind you up. I found jth's comment on sackcloths brilliant. As I did baza's sharp comment!
