Another forum I subscribe to allows me to edit my contribution for about five minutes after posting.

Would it be possible to introduce that here - it's muck better than having to post a further entry to correct typos.

*much
Did you mean that? :-)
that's a good example, canary...
I see what you mean.
Ha.
There is an edit facility of sorts for me in that I can see everything I've written before I press submit. It still doesn't stop typos but maybe even a second chance of maybe 30 seconds wouldn't help much either
Yes, that would be a good option to have. You mean like a 2 minute window once a post is made to edit grammatical mistakes and re-post a URL link that's gone a bit awry?

I like it :-)
on imdb you submit and then get a preview of exactly how your post is going to appear, then you submit again. Something like that might be nice.

Maybe surrounded with flashing lights saying "Are you sure? Final answer? I've detected 12 typos in this and three gratuitous insults of Mods".

Excactly B00. Obviously a short time limit is necessary as otherwise people could substantially alter their posts and invalidate responses which would be chaos.

Yes jno, that's another solution, specially for the URLs.

What's wrong with checking as you type, works for me, occasional typo gets through but 'what the heck!
In theory it sounds great.

When I was forced to work for a living we used to issue calculate claims to benefits after spending ages assessing a claim we would send out Girocheques .

Once we hit "Enter" to let the cheque go on its way and, and no earlier, did you miss a glaring error in your calculation.

We wanted a further period of time to change the calculation but they said "No" - but using civil service words that nobody understood.

I was always taught to read what I'd written before submitting but, yes the odd mistake does slip through.

I'm not sure how your suggestion would work though.
Agree Baldric, but what about things like URL's and photo links that for one reason or another don't show when you first post them? Wouldn't it be nice if we could think "oops, wrong link entered" and put the right one in?
This has been brought up before and turned down by the Ed.

I for instance could post "I think B00 is absolutely horrible" and within a couple of minutes there would be several replies.
I then edit it to "I think B00 is absolutely brilliant" and the erstwhile replies might look rather silly...
I am sure I have read that there used to be an editing option here but it was revoked after some abused it.

I think a message saying 'You are about to submit' and a copy of your script maybe enough to make us reread what we've written.

I make dreadful errors- sticky keyboard/haste/poor vision but the main reason is I often fail to double check before submitting.

OK, so this forum remains inferior to others I use. So be it. I'm not bothered, just thought it would be nice.
I'd like a 5 minute delay imposed on some people in 'crosswords'.
'Inferior' , that's a shame - still glad you have some better places to visit.
