Welcome to the Editor's blog. Here is the place to ask questions about The AnswerBank.
As I’ve just asked a reasonable question asking about my thread, is there any chance it’ll get answered or is it just spite from an over zealous Mod?
Just asking because if this is deleted too you can consider it my last post on the site, just wanted a scintilla if common decency and manners, not much to ask.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone who doesn't want to know the result of a particular sporting event should simply stay well clear of social media (and 'interactive' websites, such as AB). However I don't think that having a post disappear is really something worth getting one's knickers in a twist about. I've just spent 10 minutes carefully putting together...
the event happened just over an hour ago. For people like me, who arent near the television and planned to watch catch up later, i didnt really want to find out via latest posts - all you need to do is put spoiler in the title, and make it so the result doesnt show in the question
So in essence, the Sport section can only discuss events way after they’ve happened, presumably by hermits who have no tv, radio, all others forms of media(social or otherwise) nor contact with like-minded friends and acquaintances?
But the place can be overrun on a Sunday by quizzers and crossworders?
Oh dear, you need to read what you are being advised instead of continuing in your tantrum.
Anything can be discussed *in real time* providing it is disguised sufficiently so that it is not inadvertently stumbled upon by those wishing to defer the knowledge....
did you actually read your answers? Perfectly entitled to discuss the sports results - just make sure the results dont show in "latest posts" by usin the methods discussed
I have to catch up on some sporting events on Sky later in the evening, because my husband hogs the TV all day. I never listen to radio or look at News websites, so can easily avoid finding out results, unless they are put on AB without a Spoiler Alert.
It was quite right to pull the thread.
Tantrum?? LOL, just looking for a bit of consistency!
This is an event that has had worldwide coverage in sporting circles but it gets deleted immediately.
Yet there’s much wailing and gnashing of teeth when the plot line of Deadenders gets ‘inadvertently’ given away, yet rarely(if ever) deleted.
Ho-hum, guess I’ll have to get back to reality and real time events.
That such spoilers have to be provided proves to me what I've always said about "sports fans" - they are not at all interested in watching the actual sport itself , just the result. But they convince themselves this is not the case, and "pretend" all along the way, with hope ruling eternal.
For those of you with long memories, there was a very funny episode of "The Likely Lads" many years ago based on this premise - they spent the entire episode trying to avoid being told the result only to find in the evening when they tuned in to the transmission that the match had been called off because of the state of the pitch (or some such reason).
