I would like to acknowledge that there are some accounts that have been created by our moderators, to help them control the community, without breaking their normal identity.

Having multiple AnswerBank accounts is against site rules. However, these accounts have been approved by the Editors.

These moderators will be added to this thread, and you should give them as much respect as you would give to an Editor.

If you are a moderator, and would like to have one of these accounts, please send us an email.

Zacsmaster - It looks like I started all of this last night. In the past I removed posts and had to watch as a row breaks out about who was responsible and why. I can now use my usual name to remove the posts and explain why in my secretmod name. I will also be able to warn posters to kerb their tempers and it might result in less suspensions happening.

It may be an idea for secret moderators to adopt a different style for their undercover comments, otherwise there seems little point.

Not even 'otherwise' as it 'appens.
Another 100+ thread looming.

Ed.....when you are in a hole then stop digging.

The question of Mods and their suitability and judgement has been with us for 10 years plus and despite elongated and fractious debates, is still with us.

The point of someone being a "superMod and at the same time a normal ABer is ludicrous.

My advice over the decade has been quite equivocal, Mods only delete trolls and illegal advertisers.

Yes of course there will be fights (they still are) but they will either be ignored or burn themselves out, whichever, this constant critisism of Moderators will be brought to an end.
Bednobs 15:46. Thanks. Nice to have a bit of background for the reasoning.
Could be a problem if an ABer posts something that makes the website owner liable, Sqad. Their only defence is to delete the comment as soon as is reasonably possible.

"You said name of moderator appointed recently would be shown on your thread at that time"

No one came forward and wanted to be a moderator so there was no moderator to add to the list!

"The question of Mods and their suitability and judgement has been with us for 10 years plus and despite elongated and fractious debates, is still with us."

We have never done anything like this before. Maybe now moderators can give their side of the story, there will be less debate, and more transparency.
I must be a goody two shoes, never had a post deleted as far as I know :) Can I have an award? A gold star next to my name, perhaps? A halo?
Ed.....I hope that you are correct.
barry.....that is a very rare occurance ,in fact I cannot think of an example.
So you’re saying previously there has been no line of communication whereby a Mod tells you why they’ve deleted a post or closed a thread etc?
I am not technically knowledgable, but surely much of the mods' work is zapping of obvious adverts - would it not be simpler to prevent these posts from being made? Use keyword.

If people grew up and behaved then there would be no need for regular moderation.

Drumming up more members is a totally other issue and needs to be approached in a 'creative' way.

there are certain users that have held multiple accounts with multiple Identies ..and been banned to boot..that continue to post with impunity despite Ed being notified of this countless times..

Sqad, a few examples - a juror posting insider knowledge of an ongoing court case; a libellous comment (eg wrongly accusing somebody of being a paedophile); a post intending to incite violence, or cause fear / distress.

‘It looks like I started all of this last night.’

Thanks. Whoever you are.

‘ I can now use my usual name to remove the posts and explain why in my secretmod name’

That’s so much clearer.

Isn’t it?
Why do we need to know the names / identity of any Mods?
I don’t care as long as they’re seen to be zapping when they should although I agree with Murray’s post above
SpareEd, //Any moderators that we take on in the future will be added to this thread//

Will that be their regular username - or their ‘secret’ name?
This thread is becoming to sound a little like the "Who's On First?" skit.
SecretMod, you didn’t have to watch as rows broke out. You could have done the decent thing and shown a bit of respect for the membership by coming clean as other mods have.
Surely you can’t be arguing with a Secret Mod, Naomi?

Does not compute. Does not compute. Do…Zzzzzz…nnnnn……

BOOM!
If anyone is confused... maybe refer to Naomi's weekend thread.

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/AB-Editors-Blog/Question1811329.html

"Secretmod" made list of suggested guidelines for AB behaviour.
I've no problem with a mod wishing to remain secret...particularly under these circumstances.
barry....yes, but no.

One can see fights coming a mile off.....same people, same topic and that is the commonest cause of nastiness.
ABer gets post removed, he thinks that he has done nothing wrong, Mod thinks he has.........and then the thread lengthens.
I think that your point about litigagtion against the site is possible but not probable.

I have stood by my solution for years and I think that it would go a long way in addressing the problem.
