The Next Step is aimed at a teenage audience. In much the same way as Grange Hill included storylines about racism, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, mental health and sexual assault forty years ago, The Next Step seeks to address issues that can affect young people, such as homophobia and misunderstandings about sexual identity issues.
I can see no reason why a programme aimed at teenagers shouldn't show a heterosexual couple kissing and therefore absolutely no reason at all why it can't feature gay couples kissing.

bednobs: "isn't it? Why not?" - It's a kids program!
"Are you against boy/girl kissing?" - Yes, on a kids show.
"Has your grandson never seen anyone kiss before or something?"- Of course he has.
"How old is he? was he horrified too, or just you? " - he is within the range recommended by CBBC (6-12) He did not say anything I was horrified.

chico: "I can see no reason why a programme aimed at teenagers shouldn't show a heterosexual couple kissing and therefore absolutely no reason at all why it can't feature gay couples kissing. " - yes but why is it on CBBC which claim their programs are suitable for 6012 year olds? More trobiscite secret sexualisation of our kids.
