Fiat Panda

I saw a Fiat Panda yesterday, 2009. Very low mileage for the year & only one owner from new. A nice looking & tidy car. The MOT expires in August & the dealership said he would have a new one done. I've just checked on the MOT info site & it has passed but has an advisory. It says "nearside & offside coil springs corroded...monitor & repair if necessary". If these are corroded should the work be carried out or is this a grey area? Does anyone know how much it would cost (rough estimate) to have this work done. Thanks for your replies

I have driven various models of Fiat cars since early 1980s and never had a problem with them. Mind you, I only have a low mileage which no doubt helps. An advisory note is just that - advisory, but I would have the work done sooner rather than later.

Cambelt and water pump might be due for a change (on year not mileage if it is low), so check handbook/online. Parts cheap, its the labour that'll hurt.

I certainly would have the cambelt/drive-chain checked out....the coils around 50-70 plus your labour and VAT......they're great little cars and my one for around here (2012) has a little turbo for a bit of oomph, does 58 mpg on diesel around town, insurance at 160 and tax at 30.....it's ideal for the lanes in Cornwall and then the bigger bus is used for long distance.

Fiats especially the Panda, have a reputation as 'rust buckets'. If the spring is corroded then it is a fair bet the bodywork near the spring attachment point is also rusted. I would get an independent inspection from someone like the AA.

What price are they asking? A 9 year old Fiat is unlikely to be worth much above scrap value.Say £300 tops.

This car is the Fiat Panda Dynamic Eco 1.2, 2009 & has just done 37000 miles. Eddie I think you are rather wrong with your valuation. Look at what they are selling on eBay & the likes!!
