Do you leave yours in the door once its locked!?

My Dad always said to keep it in the lock incase of a fire the keys were there...

However theres been alot of break-ins recently and you hear stories about locks being turned easily with a magnet if a key is in place!

My front door dosent have a key on the inside its just an internal lock like a hotel room and a chain. Might add on another bolt!?

Im really quite frightened by all these break ins and I live in a decent area....... they are rife at this time of year :0(

Need to look into an alarm system or a camera/ deterrent!

No.
I've never lived in a place that you have to use keys to let yourself out: In, yes, but out?
No we always take the keys out of the locks when we lock up at night. Might break the glass in the doors and turn the key and let themselves in.
Put a bolt top and bottom of the door, and if your lock has a dead lock function ( usually have to turn the key twice ) use it.
Never thought much about it until my neighbour had a fall in her living room and couldn't get up. Nobody could get in because she had left the back and front door keys in the lock. Ended up having to get the emergency services involved to open up. Make sure my keys are removed now.
This key on the inside of the door must be a UK thing.
Remove the keys, put them somewhere near the door\lock .
Internal doors we leave the keys in place -if they are going to get in, they are in and they do less damage.

Our external locks we take the keys out.
There's only one door into my house, with a Yale lock on it, so I couldn't leave a key in the lock (on the inside), even if I wanted to.

I do have a bad habit of leaving the chain on the door though (rather than only putting it on when answering the door), which means that (for example) emergency workers could be delayed in getting to me if I needed their help.
Its usually only the double glazed Upc type doors that you can lock with a key from the inside.

We lock ours and remove the key, keep it near the door always in the same place in case of emergency, but out of sight.
We remove the keys at night but they're nearby and out of sight. Both our back and front doors have to be locked with a key from inside (normal wooden doors, not UVPC).
No. If I did my D.I.L. wouldn't be able to get in if there's an emergency.
My front door is solid timber, It can be locked with the key from the inside. Same with the back door.
keys out and out of sight but handy..too many break ins where keys are fished for through letter boxes..I know someone that this happened to..whilst he slept they cleared all downstairs..including his jacket with wallet , credit cards etc , which were well used on line ,and contactless bank card was used also..and escaped in his very nice BMW !! insurance will not pay out....
can't do that through my letter box, it's designed so that that can't happen.
Try 2 of the bolts that are set into the edge of the door and have a star shaped key, they're very strong. I can't remember what they're called.
captive bolt locks I think..had them on internal doors so I could lock up kitchen at night from FIL ,who had alzheimers and wandered..too many dangerous items in there

I think I will start leaving the key somewhere!

I read they can get in if they want but like a key to get back out again to avoid climbing over broken glass etc!

Just thinking somewhere inventive to leave it nearby but out of sight

Thanks for the chat / advice x
Almost every set of keys i have been given when decorating houses (and that's literally hundreds) had mortice locks on them and could be locked from the inside. Because some of the areas we worked in were 'rough', we always kept the front door locked when working in the bedrooms so that the local 'tea-leaves' couldn't nip in and rob anything. My own front door has a mortice lock but, as it also has a glass pane, i take my key out at nights.
We lock up at night with the key and leave it in a little dish close by, but out of sight. Could you put a hook on the wall or on the side of a cupboard closeby Tinkerbell?

These are nice ones for example.
