Assuming that you're using a Windows computer, the antivirus software that's built into Windows itself (i.e. Microsoft Defender Antivirus) is all you need.  There's no need at all to install anything else.

To go completely ad-free, use an open-source antivirus. The most popular is called ClamAV. https://www.clamav.net

^^^ ClamAV is best suited to Linux computers, rather than to Windows ones.  (It's got an alarmingly low detection rate for some types of virus on Windows).

Further, it requires quite a bit of technical knowledge to set up and to fully get to grips with.  It's definitely NOT what Fanning2024 needs.  (As I've indicated above, Windows Defender, which is built into Windows, is perfectly good enough).
