I have a wasp that is hovering in one place, about head height, which means that I can't use my decking for fear of being stung. I have looked under the decking, but see no nest. It doesn't seem to go anywhere, it just stays in one place. I have tried swatting it - it just reappears 5 minutes later. I have watched it, but it doesn't seem to go into a certain area - what can I do to get rid of this pest? Thanks
We have those too. Get a wasp catcher and put OJ in it. The packaging will probably say use dilute sugar solution, but OJ is much more effective- don't let them ruin your summer!
Please don't kill it. Hover flies eat other real pests and as far as I know they do not sting. I have had lots of them in my garden and they do more good than harm. Live and let live.
Take a jam jar, almost empty of jam . Three quarters fill with water, screw on the lid make a small hole in the top and put by your decking. It wont resist the jam, even consider smearing a bit on the lid to create interest, in it will go and drown.
