My dog's poo is always very 'loose' so difficult to poop scoop. He is only fed on Eukanuba dry dog food and a dentistik every day - any suggestions?
The vet remarked on it whilst there for other treatment but gave no guidance.

am not a vet but if it were my dog would alter diet to a very bland one - maybe rice and boiled chicken or fish -small meals several times a day - see if that works - I'm assuming the dog is on a worming programme. Animals assimulate food on a percentage basis -if the digestibility of a food is say 70%, then 30% will come out as faeces - this is maybe not the problem with your dog but would suggest you try the rice/fish/chichen suggestion - if after a day or two nothing improves, consult you vet.

thanks carmalee
Chicken and rice is okay for a day or two if the dog has an upset tummy but it can't be fed on it all the time, it needs all the vitamins and minerals that you get in proper dog food otherwise you'll end up with a dog with a lot of health problems.
Lankeela would probably give you some advice on this.
hi craft - sorry I didn't make myself clear - of course I wasn't advocating keeping your dog on a rice/fish/chicken diet for ever, just for a few days - at least that way you will be able to establish if its the particular brand of food or not. I've been involved in animal welfare all my (long!) life and each time we had a dog with a dodgey stomache in at the centre this is what we did - on the advice of our vet. Chappie is a very easily digested tinned food too. keep us posted as to pooch's progress.

Thanks people - my last dog had a very delicate stomach (she was a very tiny dog) and was often fed on chicken, rice, and scrambled egg.
This dog is a robust psycopath who loves his dry dog food but for some reason it's not very dry when it comes out of the other end. If it hasn't sorted itself by the end of the week will take him to the vets. He's not ill or off it so I assume the vet will recommend changing his type of food (as you do)
Many Thanks
hi we had a dog with same prob, due to a sensitive tummy we feed her on chicken and chappie dog food and it seemed to work. but i would talk to your vet really.ask to speak to someone that cares.
ment to say chicken and rice chappie dog food.
Mine has eukanuba too, and no problem. Dunno if you meant the vet was remarking on eating that or the fact of the loose poo, but my vet is quite happy that mine is fed the good stuff.
Under normal circumstances Eukanuba is one of the best foods for firm small poos, as a great deal is digested leaving very little to come out the other end. I would definitely get the vet to check for colitis or other problem, no doubt he will recommend Hills Prescription Food, which he will make a healthy profit for selling you!

thanks for your kind suggestions. Cost doesn't really bother me as my daughter works for a veterinary drug company and gets me staff discount on any food/products I need. I can't understand it as his last owner just fed him any old dry dog food and allegedly had no problems (Casper is a 3 year old re-home)
