Other than that though, just try exercising more, and eating more healthily (assuming you don't already) as ansteyg says.
While I agree that this might be more beneficial in some cases it is not always practical and it still depends on what you eat and how much exercise you do.
I rarely have breakfast, have a small snack mid morning and have a proper dinner in the evening (usually after 7pm) but I eat a balanced diet and get very good exercise and as a result have an athletic physique and am very healthy and happy about the way I look.
Nutritionalists may advise that you eat the bulk of your food before 3pm, but I don't believe that the order in which you eat food (unless you mean food combining) will ahve any effect on your weight. We are always advised not to eat before bed because at nightime, our bodies have to concentrate on sleeping, repiaring tissues etc, and to give your body the burden of digestion right before you go to sleep will result in a stressed body, and may stop you sleeping properly. I think your weight gain is a natural occurence, which happens as we get older. Our metabolism slows down and we are rarely as energetic and wiry as when we are young! My Mum is 65 and simply cannot lose weight, no matter how hard she tries, even though when she was younger she found dieting easy.
'Fraid you need to eat less, or do more exercise, or both if you want to lose weight!!
