Boots who is 16+yo is constantly following me about, he rushes into the kitchen and sits looking at his bowl at least 20 times a day, I give him fresh chicken and buy Whiskas, Felix,, Tescos own, Morrisons own and anything else I think he might eat. He also sits by me and stares at me and my slightest movement meens he rushes to his bowl. This is not really a question but he's driving me mad, anyone any suggestions.

Does he want a drink?
Question Author
No micmak, I always have water for him, in fact he will not drink tap water so I buy still bottled water and he drinks that. There is also plenty of rain water in dishes in the garden. He does like Whiskas cat milk and he has that sometimes.
Take him to a vet - he's probably trying to get nutrients - I had an old cat who, when I stripped off some plaster, would lick the bricks - I took him to the vet, who diagnosed that he had a kidney condition - he was licking the bricks in attempt to get iron, which would help his condition.
He is probably going a little senile (like doc) and getting a little confused with life. However as Vagrant says it could be a medical problem. Old cats can get thyroid problems and this makes them forever hungry and pretty vocal.

Good luck with your old males.
My cat does this too. As soon as you head in the direction of the kitchen he almost trips you over trying to get in there before you. He also likes to lick plastic bags
you have a very old cat who is possibly/probaby slightly senile - his focus is food and attention. at 16 he doesn't have too much in his life and would undoubtable benefit from a thorough medical to eliminate any underlying causes. In the abscence of a medical condition - humour him, feed appropriate food and feel good that , at 16, this cat has a caring owner.
Agree with Wolf and carmalee. It is likely to be dementia which is extremely common in cats. Does he yowl a lot or pace about during the night and not settle very well? They seem to crave attention. Or as others have said it could be a kidney problem which can give them an increased appetite, although they can't actually eat the food because it makes them feel sick. You should definitely get him checked over, he can probably be helped.

Thanks all for your answers, he is definately senile and a bit deaf as well. He's off for a check up Friday.
My cat is 18 years old and had the same problem, even to licking the coals on my artificial fire. Took him to the vet, who explained lack of nutrients and senality setting in, so always leave him a bowl of biscuits down that he can access at all times and just feed on demand, (very tiny amounts)
Get him checked out, as others have said, he's an old boy and probably needs a few things monitored. You should be feeding him senior cat food to get the nutrients an older cat needs, too, not the ordinary versions. My guys shout for food at every available opportunity - they have to wait - 7am and 5pm, no other times, otherwise they'd be snacking all day.
Definitely senile and a bit deaf? All the poor Puss needs now is an AB login.
