I know many people who have made good friendships with sharks around the Balearics. So, in answer to your question, they seem to be very popular.
Well I actually live in Ibiza (34yrs) and have never seen a shark - but I am sure there are some - but as to being very popular I don't think so.  Now if you want to talk about jellyfish we have millions.

netibiza, I am going on holiday to Menorca with my wife and two young children in July, Is there any danger from jellyfish or anything else for that matter ?

Menorca is north from Ibiza and I have never been there.  We get swarms of jellyfish in the really hot weather which I suppose would be July so ask around to be safe as they can really hurt.  Some of our beaches are rendered useless as they literally glisten with jellyfish and it is madness to walk amongst them.  If you do get stung put vinegar on it.  I have given up swimming in the sea because of the jellyfish, but Spanish kids love hauling them out of the water and putting into buckets so maybe I overreact.
as not many people take vinegar with them to the beach, if you are stung by a jellyfish another alternative is to pee on the sting and it will neutralise it.

Don't worry Jules, I always carry vinegar with me where ever I go. Thanks to all !
Jules001 if you start peeing on beaches you'll get stung by the Guardia Civil (I'd prefer a jellyfish sting)
lol, I haven't actually peed on the beach, just read somewhere about it neutralising stings and more handy than vinegar. Although I might have to start carrying vinegar around with me too.
and what do you put on your chips jules001
I always put manure on my rhubarb.
By the way, I think pigface (sorry your choice) meant human sharks not fishy ones.
is there sharks in the shallow water in menorca??
