Chris Packham

We went to see Chris Packham last night; he gave a public lecture at the local uni which was brilliant. As always, he was as entertaining as he was knowledgeable which made for a perfect evening out.

Still just a little bit awestruck :-)

Well I've just read the Telegraph link Maidup and it sounds reasonable to me. Chris clearly loves the area and has its survival at heart. As everyone wants its continuation then all sides need to come together and get a plan sorted quickly. It would be tragedy to lose places like that.

Indeed but that kind of extreme opinionated behaviour doesn't help.

He says "We can all continue to enjoy it, the wildlife can prosper and the Commoners can prosper if we just have a bigger and sharper visions of what it needs."

He added: "I do lose sleep about it. It's a place that's very close to my heart.

"I've grown up there, I've cut my teeth as a naturalist there and it's currently - and very fortunately - my backyard.

"I care about it as much as all the people who have different views to me. We just need to come together and realise that we need to act."

Opinionated I agree but for all the right reasons.

I admire the vast work the Chinese do to save the Giant Panda, but the main priority should surely be to revert their habitat to what it was before Man encroached on it. What are they going to do with the millions(?) of people who now live on/of that land?

I think that's the problem wildwood, they can't revert back now as there are too many people. Time to stop trying is one arguement.

Lucky you Maidup, I went to see him last year, and enjoyed it very much, would definatle go again.

I don't live far from the NF and it definatly need manageing better, for wildlife and the public. I dont visit this beautiful area as often as I used to, in summer is simply full of tourists and litter, litter, litter, not good for anyone. In autumn/winter its much better, but still needs managing better for all.

Ladybirder - I will never agree with him about elephants being culled. In my opinion, he's a moron for saying that. Like I said, can't stomach the man !
