Report of animal abuse

When leaving work yesterday I witnessed a drunken yob beating his dog. It was in a secluded area and only myself and him around. I screamed at him to stop and he turned on me. I hid so I could follow where he would possibly going and saw him enter a block of flats. I then found a securtiy guard in the building next door who said the man is very well known and visits that park about 3/4 times a day, terrorises people and often beats his dogs (!!!??) BUT that the police wont do anything!! When I got home I rang the police who said I was right in doing so, took all of the details and said they will investigate. Now, Im guessing this will just be a case (IF they do see him) that he will just deny it and that will be that. My point is I will NOT give up until this man has his dog taken from him. If nothing is done what else can I do? The police said not to call the RSPCA as it was a matter for them.

Hi everyone, well no sight of him yesterday. Trust me if I could have taken the dogs from him I would but he was being very violent and I was alone. I havent heard back from the police (they said they would contact me within 48hrs so they have until tonight). The first call I made was to the dog warden for advice and I was told it is not something they would get involved with and that I should call the police as he had actually broken the law so I will exhaust all avenues I can and if I dont hear from the police tonight then I am calling the RSPCA. Im going again after work to see if he is around and im coming over this weekend to do a stake-out in my car :) Ive had offers of help from some men to come with me and "sort him out" which im very tempted by to be honest but that wont get the dogs away from him or stop him from owning dogs in the future. He needs to be stopped permanently. I will keep you all in the loop with how I get on and thanks again for your advice and support.

Good luck Olliebaby, keep us updated as like you most of us here hate this kind of thing, and couldn't bear to think of the dog/dogs suffering.

I will be careful I promise. I just keep looking out of the window at work to the flats where he went back towards with them. Knowing they are in there with him or just left on their own, and going through god knows what is breaking my heart. I just wish they knew I was trying to find and help them you know?, I know it sounds stupid but I wish they did :( I hope to god I see him this weekend and that the RSPCA are going to take it as far as it needs to go. I detest scum like this.

Just so you guys know im not looking for him so I can approach him or anything, I wouldnt do that. Im doing it so I can get a better description of him and more details to give to the RSPCA, I dont want to go with vaugue information, I want to say, its this man, these are the dogs, he lives in this building and comes here so and so times a day. Makes it more of a case and more for them to work with hopefully.

my next door neighbours didn't look after their dogs properly so i used to throw food over the fence to them and give them water when i knew the owners weren't in!

I spoke to the RSPCA and their inspector said the dogs would be better off as strays, (she wasn't very helpful, just ranted about the paperwork and formalities they have to go through) so anyway one day i got fed up of them being locked up in their kennel all day so i reached over the fence and unlocked the kennel door, the dogs ran straight out and i hadn't realised the neighbours had left their back gate open, the dogs ran straight through it round the house and sat on my front door step!

I rang the council and told them there was 2 stray dogs on my porch, they turned up and the dogs jumped into the back of their van and off they went, about 6 weeks later the RSPCA inspector knocked on my door to say that both dogs had been rehomed together!

If anyone from the RSPCA went on about paperwork to me, i would have reported them to their senior. The RSPCA rely on donations from the public which could be stopped promptly with people like that working for them.

You would be amazed at how many people phoned me when I was in Pest Control to want help to rescue animals that were trapped and the story was usually the same, RSPCA just dont want to know, I was lucky to have an employee that felt the same way as I did, day or night we would be off rescuing some poor trapped creature that the RSPCA couldn't give a damned about.

It wasnt an every day occurrence but it happened, we never charged for this service and my employee was never paid for it.

Ratter, their get-out clause re. trapped animals etc. is that they are dedicated to tackling CRUELTY to animals, not animals in distress, and as this case is involving cruelty they should be prepared to act. I once reported to them a dog which had been very seriously injured by another dog in a fight, and was told it was not their concern.

Khandro, one of the jobs I went to was a gull hanging by one leg from a bird netting fixture incorrectly fitted at a bank in the middle of town, there was a crowd staring up at it when we arrived and totally shocked that the RSPCA had refused to attend. Surely that was cruelty, allowing that bird to hang there for hours? I bet if one of the people that phoned the RSPCA said there would be a film crew, they would have been there in minutes!!

Agree with that Ratter, I went to a IKC dog show at a school in London once that was featured on World In Action, there were more RSPCA officers there than dogs. Who knows what they thought was going to go on.

They would say that the cruelty has to have been inflicted by humans! It would be best, I saw with hindsight, to have said that I had witnessed a despicable, unidentified person inflict the injuries. My daughter incidentally works full-time at a charitable trust, wildlife centre, based in the Cotswolds, and she deals with injured wild animals daily. You could check if something similar exists in your area. (She told me Jethro Tull came in recently with a baby owl, took off their hands a couple of hedgehogs for his garden, and was so impressed, he gave them a cheque for £500. !)

But surely a suffering animal is a suffering animal, does it really matter how the animal is suffering and 9 times out of 10 its due to humans, the bird netting didnt put itself up there!

I would definitely keep up with persuing this. Even if the poor dog dies, this man should be punished and not allowed to have another. Its a disgrace. Poor dog so terrified and cannot defend himself. If the dog did turn on him and defend himself, he would probably be put down anyway. No win, so I hope justice is done to this ( I wont call him a man) MONSTER !!

Hi everyone, well here we go......The Police (as predicted) havent done anything so against their instructions I called the RSPCA and guess what??? They cant do anything until I provide his FULL name and FULL address. I said I cant do this as he lives in high rise flats and couldnt they not just patrol the area etc - no! She said I need to investigate the matter, ask around the park if anybody will give me his name and address !?!?! Erm....isnt this their job? And what if I asked somebody who he is friendly with or word gets around about me? I said how can I get his flat number? I cant get in - again she said I need to ask around. Im absolutely and totally disgusted. I SAW him beating the dog, gave a full description of him, the dogs, the times he goes to the park but no, I have to get these details and until I do they wont act. She refused to even go to the park to see if he was around. What on earth are these people there for?? and they expect people to give to their charity?? The Dog Warden didnt want to know, the police fobbed me off on every one of my calls to them chasing it and the RSPCA wont help. Im so so angry!!

sounds about right, as has been said on previous posts i bet if there was a tv camera there they would do a full columbo style investigation, tell them you'll donate £500 if they catch him see what they say then!

Ollibaby, I'm trying to pick up the thread again, having been away for a few days; how awful for you drawing a blank with the RSPCA, though nor surprising, ditto the police - what's the matter with the world?! I wonder if you could get any help from a local vet? unlikely that the perpetrator would go to a vet, but they may know of him by hearsay, and might even be able to suggest a course of action.
