Have To Rehome My Lovely Maltese
46 Answers
I have recently gone through a marriage breakdown and I am desperately trying to get my life back on track. I have the opportunity of a very nice little Housing Association flat but they don't allow pets [not even with visitors]. I have the most gorgeous 2yr old Maltese and she is 'my baby'. She is well behaved, does tricks and is curled up beside me as I type this through my tears.
I have no-one (no friends or family) that I can talk this over with to decide on the right course of action.
I know housing is hard to come by but I can't afford to buy, private rentals, that will accept pets, are like gold dust and snapped up so quickly!
I also need to find work. I haven't worked much in the last two years since I got my dog - a lovely little temp part-time job a few months back [that I had hoped would go permanent] but nothing else, so she isn't familiar with being alone much. If I have to re-home her then I would need to do it quickly because I could lose this flat but I need to be sure that she is going to a good home and be with someone that isn't at work all day.
I have so much going around in my head I just can't think straight - in need of support!

You're unlikely to find anywhere on your doorstep- there are thousands of nice needy dogs for people to choose from. I'd rip their arm off personally and travel as far as it takes.
Thank you Ladybirder - I will keep your offer in mind. You do sound ideal for her. She loves company and cuddles! She is an excitable little thing though! She loves people and playing. When I take her for a walk she generally rolls on her back when someone stops to fuss her - loves her tummy rubbed!
I am just going to take her out for a walk while the sun is still shining. We didn't go earlier, it was snowing and horribly mucky out from road salt. I worry about that on her little paws, can't be nice for her!
I will check back in later.

Hi Dawn, I have spoken to my friend and they would be able to arrange transport if needed.
I've been trying to set up an email for you to contact me at but it seems every name is taken [I even tried that lol].
I'll work on it while your out for your walk... so at least now you know she has a definite place if needed :0)

Could I suggest we leave Dawny to look through the options. I'm sure she's seen your offer Ladybirder but you did say you had a cat and it has been said that the dog doesn't get on with cats, maybe the OP doesn't want to stress her girl out with a cat in the house.
There are a lot of rescues out there to be looked at... I can't vouch for them all though which is why I offered to ask at one I can. This is a small rescue that takes time to find the perfect home for the animals in their care... they do amazing work.

Breed rescue is by far the best option - they probably have a waiting list of suitable people just waiting to give a home especially to a young bitch. In my breed we try to foster them with people who have the breed if we don't have someone already waiting for one so they don't have to go into a kennel. http:// www.the -kennel -club.o rg.uk/s ervices /public /findar escue/D efault. aspx?br eed=615 9
