Used to feed the Dogs a veggie complete dry food. Thy were quite happy on it, but it never stopped them eating meat if it was offered to them (grandad mainly). Cats, no.
No. If you want a vege pet, get a rabbit or hamster.
Interesting comment on a TV programme the other day. Seems canines were originally meat-eaters only. But, somewhere along the line, they evolved the ability to digest starches. Just as well, for them, and the dog-biscuit and dry food manufacturers!
As a vegetarian and working on a vegan way of life I can understand why people would want to feed their pets a non meat diet, I have 15 pets and I also have a degree in animal management.
All my carnivorous pets are fed meat, some animals are obligate carnivores, meaning they must eat meat basically.
Feeding a meat free diet is not recommended as this could have serious health implications for the animal, best advise would be to have a herbivorous pet :)
Don't do it, there is no good reason to do it and it would be totally unatural , we feed our dogs on a raw meat diet, they do also have a few raw fruit and vegetables as well.
